Lago Martianez

“So it’s a big swimming pool” would be your first impression. It’s not so very far from the truth, but the thing is, it is SO big (and so nicely made) that the visit is well worth the entrance fee. The park has one gigantic pool shaped like a natural body of water, with several “islands” in the middle, on one of which there’s a restaurant and a bar that you can swim to – how cool is that?! The ticket buys you the sunbed and if you’re lucky a bit of shade under one of the palm trees. Quite a famous place, apparently, visited in its time by the Beatles and whoever else. Now, also us.

I am not one of those people whom you would find rubbing sunscreen on himself and waiting in the scorching sun until my skin is nice and crispy. I am thankful to the architects who planted plenty of palm trees and what not, so the shade is easy to find.

Lidia drags me off my perch and we swim a slow circle around the lake/pool, by the end of which we both are cold stiff, but ok, it’s not exactly August.

All in all, a nice little alternative to the fierce waves at the coast, to enjoy which you need a wetsuit and a surfing board (plus being generally inclined to engage in that sort of thing). And, it’s five minutes’ walk from our place!
